Power Systems Engineering

M.E Power Systems Engineering program provides scope for advanced studies in power generation, distribution and power equipment. Power system studies which involves generation, transmission and distribution of energy has become increasingly important in the context of increased consumption of electrical power in the industrial, military and transportation sectors.

Electric power systems are also at the heart of alternative energy systems, including wind and solar electric, geothermal and small scale hydroelectric generation. It prepares the students for entering the power industry with skills and knowledge required for meeting the present and future challenges. The curriculum is designed to impart a thorough understanding of important topics like advanced power system analysis, power system transients & dynamics, HVDC, flexible AC transmission system, distributed generation & micro grid, industrial power system analysis & design and smart grid. Also the advanced power system simulation laboratory gives hands-on experience on understanding the various aspects of power systems. It is hoped that the M.E program would enable the students to strengthen their understanding of power system for better career opportunities and open up many research avenues like energy conservation, renewable energy, and sustainable development of the power sector.

The department has an exclusive Power System Simulation lab which has licensed MATLAB Software with major application tools. And also it has an exclusive research and development lab in which the students are guided by the eminent professors to do projects in the recent development areas which may lead to publication in reputed international journals.
